Small Textiles

The patterns you see on the various textiles and products for sale are Shipibo designs. The Shipibo's see and hear these patterns in nature and reproduce them in song and design for a variety of purposes such as protection, healing, abundance and harmony. Each design has a specific meaning and is either hung in the home for protection, on their clothing for healing or on their boats for abundance in fishing, to name a few examples. These artful prayers can also be sung as each design pattern also functions as a musical score, called an Icaro. The design element and the Icaro operate cohesively to carry the power of the healing or blessing. These one-of-a-kind textiles are hand made by the Shipibo. They measure about 14 inches square and are suitable for framing and hanging. Click on the image for a larger view.
