Description

This beaded bracelet was made by a Huichol artisan in Mexico. Each bracelet shows symbols sacred to the Huichol, and carries the energy of that symbol. When clasped, it measures 8 inches long and is 1.5 inches wide.

DEER – Deers represent the spirit guide Kauyumari, who assists shamans on their visionary pathways. Deer (maxa in Huichol) often come in pairs in symbolizing the unity between men and women on their spiritual journey. The Deer mother is the source of many legends, holding tobacco gourds and corn, both vital to the survival of the tribe. When hunted in a sacred manner, it is believed that the Deer gives its life willingingly. For many days following a hunt, purifying rituals are carried out to properly give thanks to the animals.

PEYOTE CACTI – Peyote appears in a lot of Huichol art, symobolising life, sustenance, health, success, good luck, and the acquisition of shamanic powers. It is a gift from the gods, helping them to enlighten them and experience the mystical realm.

RED – The East, fire, masculinity.

BLUE – The South, Pacific Ocean, water, rain, femininity.

GREEN – The Earth, the Heavens, healing, the heart, grandfather, growth.

ORANGE – “Wirikuta”, the sacred land where the Huichol believe life began and also where they gather peyote.
