The Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange is supporting a new project in Colombia that works to preserve the indigenous wisdom of midwifery. At a gathering of midwives in Putamayo in 2022, it was observed that there has been a great loss of knowledge of spiritual midwifery in the Amazonian communities. Midwifery traditional practices and its information is held in the woman and the project will be focused on the meeting of area women and their knowledge transmission. This project will support the transmission of knowledge from women in the Kogi nation to Indigenous women in the Putamayo region of Colombia. The practice of midwifery for women and for the Kogi is an active ancestral practice that helps them maintain their original nations, culture, and identity. We will be keeping track of their progress so watch for updates here.
