About the Artwork
The exhibition includes:
-
Shipibo-Conibo kene song cloths from the Ucayali River basin of Peru
-
Wixáritari (Huichol) artworks from Mexico, including beadwork and yarn paintings
Many of the Shipibo textiles featured in this exhibit come from our community partners near Yarinacocha, including the Flores family and the Jakon Rate community. These intricate, embroidered kene cloths are visual expressions of ícaro songs and hold healing vibrations associated with protection, balance, love, health, and harmony. They are traditionally created in relationship with helping spirits and medicinal plant knowledge.
Each piece is alive with prayer, meaning, and intention—carrying the spiritual traditions, cosmologies, and ceremonial practices of its people.
These works are not only a visual joy to experience in person, but also an invitation into deeper relationship with the cultures and wisdoms they carry.
Art With Purpose
All of the communities represented in this exhibition are partners of the Center for Shamanic Education & Exchange, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Indigenous spiritual traditions and community-led initiatives.
Artwork will be available for purchase, with proceeds directly supporting Indigenous-led projects in these communities.
